ICH Impact Case Example: Enabling Local Health Department Accreditation
The Worcester Public Health Department is on track for becoming the first accredited local public health department in Massachusetts. National accreditation provides recognition of high quality, data-driven, and goal oriented public health department. Meeting accreditation standards will help the Worcester Public Health Department demonstrate accountability to the municipalities it serves and funders of programs and services.
The Institute for Community Health is supporting their path to national accreditation by facilitating the development of a three-year strategic plan for the newly formed regional public health alliance. The strategic plan includes input from a variety of key stakeholders, including the public health department’s management team, staff, and board of health members and governing officials from participating municipalities. Strategic priorities include building a strong, accredited public health department, promoting healthy communities, creating systems for effective preparedness and response to public health emergencies, and mobilizing community partnerships to protect public health.
