ICH and LZC are conducting a multi-site qualitative research study, funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH), to understand how immigrant communities experience sexual and reproductive healthcare (SRH) services, and to identify areas where policy and practice diverge. The goal is to highlight the perspectives of both patients and providers to better understand the barriers, implementation challenges, and opportunities to improve equity and strengthen care delivery for immigrant populations who are often underserved despite legal protections and policy support. ICH has partnered with three organizations to implement this research, including Boston Medical Center (BMC), Dimock Community Health Center, and Worcester RISE for Health. ICH’s approach is exploratory and guided by the Reproductive Justice framework, with an understanding of how structural factors such as immigration status, language access, care delivery models, cultural backgrounds, and systemic racism may influence both the delivery and experience of care. Research activities will include interviews and focus groups with health center leadership, comprehensive SRH providers, and immigrant patients who have received SRH care. The results from the study will be shared with MDPH and other stakeholders, with the goal of identifying actionable insights that reflect the perspectives of both patients and providers and can help advance equity in SRH care across Massachusetts.
