East Meets West is a program run by the Chinese Culture Connection of Malden, and funded by the Adelaide Breed Bayrd Foundation. Since the fall of 2008, the program has included monthly workshops for adults and families on topics that are relevant to Asian-Americans, especially recent immigrants. Workshops focus on topics that will help participants become more acculturated to life in their new communities. Beginning in spring 2011, East Meets West has also included a youth component in which high school students mentor youth from two of Malden’s elementary schools, with a particular focus on recently arrived immigrant youth. ICH has served as the program evaluator since program inception, helping the Chinese Culture Connection track program components and participant demographics, and learn about the effects that the program is having on its participants.
