Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Supporters,
On behalf of the Board of Directors at the Institute for Community Health (ICH), I am very pleased to announce that Lise E. Fried, DSc, MS, has been named the new Executive Director. We are collectively elated about the new energy, new ideas, and sound skills that Lise will bring, as she moves into this position. As a Board, we have asked Lise to take on this role based on her leadership skills, her longstanding commitment to ICH, and the profound respect that ICH staff and community partners have for her.
Lise has a wide-ranging background in public health and community research. She has been at ICH for twelve years as Senior Epidemiologist, Associate Director, Managing Director, and, most recently, Interim Executive Director. Lise has worked in the public sector and in academic epidemiologic research and holds an appointment as an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Previously, she was the Director of Research and Technology for the Boston Public Health Commission where she oversaw research activities, public health surveillance and reporting, information technology, and information systems.
Lise received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (Magna cum laude), her Master of Science degree in Public Health from Tufts University, and her Doctoral degree in Epidemiology from Boston University (BU). She received the Dean’s Award at BU for her dissertation research presented at Science and Technology Day. Her research interests include the health effects of exposure to violence, risk factors for suicide, and improving injury and illness surveillance.
Lise’s long history as a champion of public health will allow ICH to continue, as well as expand, its efforts to build sustainable, healthy communities through research, evaluation, needs assessment/surveillance, training, and strategic planning. It is with great pleasure that I introduce Dr. Fried as the new Executive Director of ICH and ask that you join me in congratulating her.
Sincerely,
Claritza Abreu & the ICH Board of Directors
