The Massachusetts Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment Initiative (MAICEI) program offers grants to support students with intellectual disabilities to be included in a college or university community of learners. In February 2021, ICH was contracted by the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education (DHE) to identify successes and challenges for college students enrolled in the MAICEI program during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our staff is collecting data from a variety of stakeholders, including the MAICEI students, MAICEI program coordinators, educational coaches, peer mentors, and family members of MAICEI students to gather a comprehensive view of the MAICEI program during remote learning and how students responded to this new learning environment. Our staff is using both surveys and qualitative interviews to collect data. We are summarizing the data on an ongoing basis and sharing it with MAICEI leadership to improve programming through the rest of the semester, and to identify changes that can be incorporated in the future. We will produce a report for MAICEI leadership in the summer of 2021, which will be shared with the Massachusetts Legislature.
