Evaluation of the MassLeague’s Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Residency Program

Client: Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers (MassLeague)
Topic Areas: Behavioral health and substance use; Healthcare delivery systems
Service: Participatory Evaluation

In 2021, the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers (MassLeague) received funding from the MA Department of Public Health to establish a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Residency Program. The pilot program will support 10 Fellows at up to five Community Health Centers, and is part of a larger statewide initiative to increase community health access to mental health providers. ICH was contracted by the MassLeague to evaluate the pilot PMHNP program and identify implementation successes, challenges, and areas for improvement. The evaluation will utilize mixed methods, including surveys, qualitative interviews, electronic health record data analyses, and focus groups. At the end of the project, ICH will synthesize all data and present findings to stakeholders, including recommendations for the design and implementation of future PMHNP residency programs.
