ICH provided evaluation support for Racial Justice in Health, a grant program funded by the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation (BCBSMA Foundation). The BCBSMA Foundation selected and supported a number of BIPOC-led and community-based organizations across the Commonwealth for three years to enhance community engagement, build grassroots power, and develop campaigns for policies and practices that promote racial justice and equity in health and healthcare delivery. ICH worked with the BCBSMA Foundation and the selected grantees to develop a logic model depicting the program’s theory of change. ICH designed and conducted qualitative interviews with the grantees throughout the course of the grant program to understand their capacity building needs, experience with the program, and outcomes after three years; and interviews with BCBSMA Foundation staff and a contractor at the end of the grant to hear their experiences and learnings from the grant program.
Our findings were used to understand the successes and challenges of the pilot grant program, as well as inform future BCBSMA Foundation programs.
