Abstract
In the design phase of a program evaluation, we challenged traditional top-down power dynamics of evaluation by prioritizing the voices of grassroots community members. Organizations in 24 states working in health care transformation advocacy and organizing were funded to participate in a community power building program. In an attempt to deploy an anti-racist framework, we used an intensive collaborative process to design our research questions and methods. This process allowed intensive engagement from grassroots BIPOC groups, while minimizing burden. Systemic transformation comes not just from the research focus, but also from the way we partner with participants.
